You know you’re talking to a fighter pilot…

…because he’ll tell you.

This is some funny shit.

Happy ‘Cinco de Houndo…’

May 24th is ‘Cinco de Houndo’ day, where we used the excuse of the date to drink more than usual.
I miss the 524…

Dos Gringos Rocks

I want to share something I’m getting more and more excited about (sts) I’ve been E-mailing with Trip for a while now after I heard the Dos Gringos are setting up a “European Tour” (Spelled You’re-a-peein’). Things are staring to fall into place and it’s time for everyone to start marking calenders. It looks like [...]

The Pedalshakers

I used to play Drums in a Band made up of fighter pilots much like the Dos Gringos. Unlike their genius however we only manage to cover some good old rock musik. We didn’t play for almost 7 years when various members PCSed all over the world (Canada and US mainly.) A good friend of [...]

Wordpress 2.5 Features

[slideshow=1]
I really like the new 2.5 Wordpress functions. They didn’t work initially, and some careful research in various forums showed that two (2!) kommas were misplaced in two different files making the image processing fail. I deleted said kommas and tahdah - I can create cool looking slideshows right through the interface with out the need for [...]

IPUG x 3

Started my IPUG today. I am the ONLY pilot in the german airforce to do an IPUG on the MiG29 (rare in itself), then the F16C in an operational squadron (also the only one there) and now on the Eurofighter (@RTU, so not so spectacular). It’ll be fun to see the differences and similarities, but [...]

Eureka.

Done.

2 July 2007 until 20 Feb 2008 :
8 Months = 233 Days = 33 Weeks = 166 Workdays.
Subtract academic / sim phase:
5 Months = 172 Days = 24 Weeks = 122 Workdays for 23 sorties = 7,47 days between rides on average.
IPUG next.

One year of Miglimey

It’s been a year since I managed to worm my way through all the code and server crap to get this page up and running. I enjoy checking in every day to look at the latest statistics. The site averaged about 17-22 hits a day with 61% coming from the US. Average time on site [...]

The Famous 731

As of 1 Jan 2008 I am once again a member of the famous 731 squadron. The last time I was assigned there from 2000 until 2004 it still flew the MiG29. It was deactivated June 2004 when we selflessly gave our MiG29 fleet to the Poles, who spraypainted their insignia on them and proceded to harvest them for [...]

CLOSE up

Korn sent me these pictures. I’d like to think the last one is a photomontage, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it’s for real. (My guess is also that it was a Brit – they’re the ones crazy enough to pull a stunt like that)

I did a photo shoot like that with a Mig29 once [...]

Negative Gs

I hate negative Gs. I bet this girl hates them more…

Class Patches

The last time I had a class patch was during my pilot training class in Sheppard back in ‘95. I remember the fuss that was made in the selection, design and final aproval phases. Our Rocky and Bullwinkle design was rejected because cutting Bullwinkle’s throat with the NATO star seemed a little politically incorrect at [...]

Eurofighter Solo

I have finally joined the ranks of the prestigious few who have flown a Eurofighter Solo (in Germany at least). To comemorate the occasion I updated my Blog Header to include the fourth fighter I have flown in my 15 year career so far. I can safely say that it will also be the last – [...]

Arachnophobia

I heard an amazing story the other day from a german exchange pilot on the Viper with the Dutch. An F-16 crashed in Afghanistan on 31 Aug 07 apparently diving from straight and level flight at 30000 feet all the way to the ground killing the pilot. Like it says in the article, it is [...]

First Flight

Had my TR-1 dollar ride in the Eurofighter today. I had it all planned out and organized a friend to take pictures with official permission to photograph inside the restricted zone – and forgot to put in a new battery. Great – not one piece of evidence. The ride itself was uneventful – it was [...]

Proof, I have a Brain!

I have proof! So no more jokes… seriously.
This wierd picture represents the start (or the end) of my Eurofighter career. To qualify for the TX you have to have an MRI done of your entire Spine and Head. (Head? Who said…..) I was in the tube today for 2 hours. They said most people can’t handle [...]

My second fini

It’s kind of wierd when you shut down the engine of the greatest fighter ever built for the last time. I know for all my friends and collegues who have done it, at least they had a relatively good chance to once again fly the Viper. Not so for me (although I did manage to come back [...]

Job Sucks, someone’s gotta do it

I guess every job has its perks – (except maybe a sewage plant diver). I’ll admit that being a fighter pilot can get pretty cool sometimes, but the negative sides do tend to outweigh the cool factor – just ask Snakeye.
By our regulations, military pilots are required to plan a long range navigation trip at [...]
